More info

Optixcare® Eye Lube helps provide lubrication and moisture during and after surgery. Ensures that the pet's eyes are clean, hydrated and well lubricated during and after surgery.

Moisturizing and lubricating gel for ophthalmic use for dogs, cats and horses.

Optixcare® Eye Lube contains sustained release hydrophilic carbomer gel

  • Specifically formulated for veterinary use and has a longer action than human eye lubricants.
  • Provides moisture to dry eyes.

Why does the eye need to be lubricated?

The cornea is normally a moist surface designed to protect the eye. Several factors can contribute to corneal drying. When the cornea becomes dry it reduces its ability to protect the eye, and this important protective surface becomes prone to injury or defect - this is commonly seen during anesthesia or in dry eye conditions, such as KCS.

Posology

  • Dry eye diseases: put 1-2 drops in both eyes, 2 to 4 times a day or as often as recommended by your vet or veterinary ophthalmologist.

Optixcare eye lubricants will not replace tear-stimulating drugs, such as tacrolimus or Optimune. Optixcare Eye Lubricant is an excellent option for complementary care for dry eyes. Due to its superior ability to increase prolonged, water-based moisture for the eye, the patient will experience calming relief from the effects of dry eye. Due to its unique Carbomer gel formulation, Optixcare Eye Lube may occur less frequently than competitive products on the market. Optixcare eye lubricants can be used as often as needed during waking hours guided by the severity of dry eye disease.

  • Anesthesia: place 1-2 drops on the corneal surface or conjunctival sac of both eyes as often as necessary.

Reductions in tear production during surgery are well documented for both dog and horse.

The cat is unique, not closing its eyes during anesthesia, requiring special attention to its cornea. In addition, many drugs and inhalable substances used in anesthesia contribute to dryness of the cornea. Providing a sterile water-based lubricant such as Optixcare Eye Lube will decrease the occurrence of corneal injury resulting from anesthesia.

When Optixcare Eye Lube comes in contact with the cornea, the gel drop expands to cover the cornea, becoming clear and very fluid-like. Due to this property, only one drop is recommended in each eye. Most routine veterinary surgical procedures are performed in less than 30 minutes, so repeating the lubricant is not usually necessary.

Caution: If irritation develops (redness, excessive tearing), discontinue use of the product and contact your veterinarian.
