Control of FHV-1 in the chronic phase of the disease in adult cats

• L-Lysine supplement formulated in soft chews soft chewable snacks of high palatability for cats infected with herpes virus.

Herpes Virus Feline

• It is estimated that at least 80% of cats are infected by feline herpes virus throughout their lives.
• After the initial infection the virus clones and eventually, often in stressful situations, it is reactivated producing a respiratory and / or ocular pathology.
• FHV-1 infected cats are chronically ill and permanent carriers of the infection.
• Typical symptomatology:
  • Local: nasal discharge, sneezing, conjunctivitis, keratitis, chemosis, ulcers in the nose, lips, tongue and gums.
  • General: fever, lethargy and loss of appetite

Mechanism of action

L-lysine is an amino acid that exerts a competitive action with arginine, another amino acid that is essential for the replication of FHV-1. By blocking arginine, L-lysine inhibits the multiplication capacity of the virus.

Indications

• Ophthalmologists and feline medicine experts recommend the use of L-lysine in the acute phase of the disease to reduce the severity of symptoms, accelerate healing and minimize the ability to spread the sick cat.
• Since FHV-1 infection is permanent, L-lysine is especially indicated as preventive maintenance for:

1. Improve the quality of life of the cat with chronic symptoms.
2. Avoid relapses.
3. Minimize the risk of contagion to other cats in the house.

Target species: cats.

How to use

• Acute or active phase: adult cats, 1-2 soft chews a day; 0.5-1 soft chew kittens a day.
• Chronic or latent phase: adult cats, 1 soft chew per day; 1/2 soft chew kittens a day. As a preventative, ALYSIA® should be administered ideally daily on a continuous basis, or at least during periods of stress (eg: entry of a new cat into the house, pregnancy, change of season ...).
